Using Spaces as Intersecting Operators in Excel

Excel users usually dislike spaces. They try always to avoid them or even cut them out using the trim() function, for instance. Yet, you will adore spaces when you know that they can act as “Intersecting Operators”.

For example, if you have a matrix-like table of Revenue, Cost, and Profit as rows versus months of the year as columns. And you’d like to write a formula that returns the Revenue of a specific month from the table.

In this situation, spaces become handy. But first you need to define the matrix rows and columns as named ranges. Then, call the ranges separated by a space.
