Unique Entries in Excel Cells Using Data Validation

When a spreadsheet is used for data entry it is highly prone for human errors, especially when it comes to entering duplicate values. Some jobs do not allow for duplicate entries such as booking invoices. For that, if Excel is used to log entries that do not accept duplicates, one should have the spreadsheet mistake-proofed for users. Data Validation wizard is one good option to force unique entries.

With the Custom Formula option under Data Validation, you can use the COUNTIF function that allows only cell values that have a count of 1 value in the entire validation range. Hence, if a value of 10 is entered twice, it will have a count of 2 which is not allowed as per the validation formula.
