In the Pull System, the customer pulls the required product and a signal (production kanban) for manufacture moves back through the production line. The product moves towards the customer, and work is only done when it is needed, to the amount that is needed. Inventory (WIP and finished goods) does not build up, and so the lead time is as short as possible for the given process steps. Materials (supplies) are provided just-in-time via supply kanbans.
