In an earlier post, I presented five scenarios of using the new XLOOKUP function showing how it can replace VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP with improved performance to overcome their limitations. With this sixth scenario, I use a formula of nested XLOOKUP to search for multiple item values from a fictitious Income Statement for a specific selected month.
This scenario highlights the power of XLOOKUP and how it eventually will put to death not only VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP, but also the INDEX and MATCH functions used in searching for values from a range.
I love using named ranges when writing formulas, especially complex ones. Hence, the first step presented here is optional, yet highly recommended for easier readability and traceability.
