A value stream map is drawn as a high-level graphical description of the steps between the start and finish of a process. Typically, hand drawn in the workplace in pencil on A3 sized paper. Includes physical and information flows, key measures at each process step, and value added/non value added time. Standard symbols are used. Value stream mapping was developed and popularized by Rother and Shook in the book Learning to See.
