A useful graphical method for highlighting and comparing the forces for and against change. A line is drawn vertically and to the left of the line are listed forces for change (driving forces) with arrows pointing right. To the right of the line are listed the forces restraining change with arrows pointing to the left. A third column on the far right is used to list countermeasures to overcome the restraining forces if these are greater than the driving forces.
